Longing by AkelahNaih Longing by AkelahNaih
Ungava dreaming of her days in the ocean. She has taken to life in her new Aquarium, but still gets depressed at the idea that she can never return home.

My first beluga and aquarium setting!

I was not sure what Beluga Bay in NED looks like, so I just used my imagination and painted a natural looking aquarium setting. I used AnoOrca's [link] painting to get an idea of what Beluga Bay might look like.

Name: Ungava (Named after the bay she was found in.)
Species: Delphinapterus leucas / Beluga whale
Gender: Female
Age: 7
Personality: Ungava is laid back and has a very relaxed personality. She is not a fast swimmer but still attempts to keep up with her younger companions. She is prone to depression at times. She is a very smart beluga and loves to learn. Because she was caught at an older age, Ungava is not water works safe at this time. Her trainers are working her towards it with great success.
History: Ungava was found alone in Ungava Bay at the age of five. She was immediately captured and sold to New England Dolphinarium. With their positive treatment, she adjusted to her new home quickly. Her trainers have noticed her tendency for depression and successfully distract her with trained exercises. Overtime her depression slowly lessened.

Thanks! :D I'm glad she looks cute! ^_^

Thank you so much! I wasn't too sure about the trees at first, but adding the lighting really made a difference. :) The beluga seems off to me, either the background or the beluga is not placed right. XD

Maybe a little more space along the bottom edge, below her tail flukes, would make her feel more centered in the picture. ;)

Really? Hmmmm I did crop it b/c it didn't look right to me. I can try adding more space and again see if it helps!

Seems like you cropped it a little too close, that being the case, as opposed to the top of the image, which leaves plenty of space between Ungava's head and the top of the frame. :3

I think so. But ultimately it's your call as to what you think looks best.

I meant to ask, though, what is that brown mark along her fluke edges? :?

I think it does look better. I think she is leaning backward too much, but oh well haha XD

It just a brown marking. A whale book I was using for beluga anatomy had the brown markings and I wanted to add it to a painting to see what it would look like. Before I do an offical ref sheet. It wont be added to her ref, I think.
